Words by Kali Madden

Give thanks for these new releases taking us to higher heights! Each work in this week’s Mixtape Mondays brings the sort of upful soundtrack we will need to get through this week’s unprecedented United States election. No matter the outcome, music is always there for us.

DJ Kayla G – Operation Takeoff: The Dancehall & Soca REMIX TAPE (2020 Mixtape)

Brooklyn-based DJ Kayla G, known as “the female force,” gives us 30 minutes of rapid fire with her new mix Operation Takeoff. The compilation, presented in association with Riddimstream and FyahSquad, commemorates the launch of the mixtape artist’s new website DJKaylaG.com. Full of original remixes, the tape blasts with dancehall tunes against hip-hop riddims and shines with moments such as a Popcaan, Alkaline, Buju and Koffee mashup against the Eve “Who’s That Girl?” beat, soca tunes against the Aaliyah “Rock the Boat” riddim — and lots more genre-defying greatness. Released less than one week ago, the mix already has over 12,000 spins on Soundcloud. Stream Operation Takeoff here:
