The spring equinox always fills us with hope, and this year that includes hope for more outdoor and live music events in the near future. In that spirit, this week’s #MixtapeMondays brings us up to speed with what’s new in dancehall, giving us that uptempo energy to match the season, as the weather becomes hotter and the days get longer.

Wildcat Sound x Raging Dawgs x 111 Bullets x Dancehall Paradise – Wargods Mixtape
Hosted by legendary soundman and emcee Ricky Trooper, this one is a brand-new tribute to dancehall’s most renowned warlords. The format is one hour of four sounds showcasing 25 minutes of top works from Vybz Kartel, Mavado, Beenie Man and Bounty Killer. In a marathon of sounds, round one gives us Vybz Kartel’s “War Anthems” segment presented by Italy’s Wildcat Sound. The vibe continues with a Mavado “Gangsta For Life” segment mixed by Raging Dawgs, Beenie Man “Inna Juggling Style” mixed by 111 Bullets in Round 3 and, finally in round 4, a year-by-year roundup of Bounty Killer anthems spanning 2001-2021, mixed by Dancehall Paradise. Tim Westwood – Slow Bashment
British television and radio presenter Tim Westwood is no stranger to what’s trending in music. Currently hosting a weekly show on Capital XTRA, Westwood has been a tastemaker in the UK for decades and, while most closely associated with hip-hop, he shares an appreciation for reggae and dancehall as well. Released on Valentines Day, Slow Bashment is a showcase of dancehall’s hottest slow jams, inspiring love from across the pond right back to Jamrock. The mix begins with Good Good Production’s Liquid Sunshine riddim and continues with more big songs from Teejay, Jahvillani, Moyann, Popcaan and more fire.
