Fatman Riddim Section, the freshly-revived side project led by legendary Inner Circle guitarist Roger Lewis, teams up with mysterious production outfit The Lickshots on Big Man Sound, an EP featuring brand-new dub renditions of classic reggae and dancehall riddims.
Executive produced by Lewis and DubShot Records’ Chris ‘Mannix’ Schlarb, the continuous play, mixtape-style set reimagines foundational riddims like Heavenless, Answer and Satta Masagana in a retro-futuristic dub style.
The six-track EP is notably colored with vocals from the late Micro Don, MC/DJ/hypeman from New York’s Rice and Peas crew and all-around Brooklyn legend, who tragically passed away in 2019. Micro’s playful toasts and adlibs, which hearkened back to the old days of sound system MCing in a fresh and modern way, were one of the hallmarks of Rice and Peas’ epic parties. He applies a similar touch here, inserting classic lines and adlibs at just the right time for maximum effect. The result is a colorful, fresh but reverent dub set sure to satisfy fans of projects like Scientist Rids the World of the Evil Curse of the Vampires.
Rounding out the project is a bad bad bad cover illustration from visual artist Robin Clare.
