Words by LargeUp Crew—
Blackboard Jungle Dub, Lee “Scratch” Perry’s landmark 1973 LP with King Tubby at the controls, was recently reissued as a box set by Get On Down Records, with the original full-length album spread across three pieces of red, yellow and green 10″ vinyl. Only 2,000 copies of the limited edition package, which comes with a giant 30” x 30” poster of the album’s cover art, and is housed in full color hinged box secured with a magnetic clasp, were produced, and were only made available for sale at brick-and-mortar record stores, as part of April’s Record Store Day promotion. Often cited as the first dub LP, Blackboard Jungle Dub was fully remastered just for the box set, and has never sounded better.
Get on Down have given us two copies of the set to give away to the people who submit the best Lee Perry-inspired illustrations. This could be a drawing of Lee himself, a re-imagining of the artwork from Blackboard Jungle or one of Perry’s other iconic albums–anything. Just jpeg it, send it to us at editorial@largeup.com, or tweet it at us @largeupdotcom. We’ll even publish the illo on LargeUp if we really like it. Here’s “Blackboard Jungle Version 1” to get your creative juices flowing.
