Chronixx is doing it for the love of the culture with this one. Shot in Nannyville, Kingston, “Likes (The Official Dance Video)” is a celebration of dancing and dancehall, featuring the Ravers Clavers dance crew, including “Fling Yuh Shoulda” creator Kool Ravers and Beenie Man’s daughter, Desha Ravers, as well as Hector “Roots” Lewis of Chronixx’s Zincfence Redemption band.
The video, directed by Ezra Tafari, showcases dances by the group such as “Genna Bounce,” “Lebeh Lebeh,” and the previously mentioned “Fling Yuh Shoulder” – some of the more popular moves of 2017. No stranger to dancing himself, Chronixx brandished his skills in the official video for “Likes,” which dropped back in June. During his Chronology Tour earlier this year, the artist was seen bussing the Fling Yuh Shoulda with Hector “Roots” Lewis, gaining fan approval with a widely-shared viral vid. Ravers Clavers responded with a viral IG video of their own, and a tribute to Chronixx during Ding Dong’s Reggae Sumfest performance. Now, things come full circle with a dance video starring Ravers, officially commissioned by Chronixx himself.
“The people made ‘Likes’ one of the biggest songs and ‘Fling Yuh Shoulda’ one of the biggest dances,” Chronixx says. “We put them together for our new video. They say dancehall can’t be clean, conscious and fun. We show them it can.”
This year has undoubtedly been a great one for Chronixx. Since releasing his long-anticipated album, Chronology, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard reggae chart, he’s headlined and sold out shows across the U.S. and England, including the world-famous Brixton Academy in London. Just this week, he was nominated as Best Reggae Act at the MOBO Awards, and received his first Grammy nomination (also in the reggae category) for Chronology. After taking the Chronology tour to Guyana and Trinidad this past week, he’s set to close out the Caribbean leg of the trip with two homecoming shows in Jamaica featuring Protoje and special guests, which you can actually stream right here.
